I couldn't help but wonder why there was no mention of "shame." I can't help but think shame both inspires the ideation as well as the secrecy. It would be interesting to know if shame and the integration or morphing of ego-dystonic ideas into ego-syntonic ideas have a causal relationship.
And I'm guessing that "reduced the risk of future attempts by 80%" means those not going through ASSIP are four times more likely to try again? I'd be **as** interested in the ratio of total ASSIP patients to no-future-attempt ASSIP patients.
The technology divides us. Everyone is connected but no one talks anymore. The hardest struggle I deal with each day is actually getting people to even talk "live." It is amazing to me on a daily basis, how many people text me constantly but won't talk with me live. This is a sad state for humanity.
If you tell your doctor about any "feelings" you are having, they are happy to pump and dump you with all kinds of SSRI's. When people feel hopeless, sometimes they take extreme actions.
What a strange world we are in. As a kid, out of 500 students at my school from Kindergarten all the way up to 6th, Grade, we only had one child with Autism.
Now in 2025, 1 in 36 has a form of autism. Incredible times. I appreciate your article here! Onward. PS How sad for our youth.
I think this is important because the current checklist manifesto method of helping people in a suicidal state is both dehumanizing AND demoralizing. We can clearly do better, but the HMO culture is so wired into making sure it stays piss poor. Well done. I wrote something similar and published today, and I feel like you are one of the folks in this field that is currently actually getting it.

If, as most seem to believe, we have a right to life, then surely we also have a right to death?
